Our services in this area include Ontario Consent and Capacity Board hearings, as well as hearings at the Ontario Review Board.
The Ontario Consent and Capacity Board adjudicates matters pertaining to consent and capacity issues of individuals. At this board, applications are heard by individuals challenging decisions made by medical professionals and others which affect the freedom and integrity of the person at hand. The vast majority of cases by heard by the Ontario Consent and Capacity Board include reviews of individuals being involuntarily held in psychiatric facilities, and reviews of individuals’ ability to consent to or refuse medical treatment.
Allison also conducts hearings on behalf of clients at the Ontario Review Board. This board deals in particular with individuals decided to be unfit to stand trial, or “not criminally responsible on account of a mental disorder” in accordance with the Criminal Code of Canada.
When faced with these difficult and stressful legal issues which as seen, can deal with not only Mental Health Law but also Criminal Law, Allison fights hard to ensure the needs of her clients are met, and they are satisfied with the outcome of these potentially life-changing hearings. With her expertise in Criminal Law as both a prosecutor and defense lawyer you can be sure Allison will be an ideal advocate on your behalf.
